After one year of reporting on Wall Street and crossing paths with a handful of BlackRock insiders, I’ve picked up on some things about the firm that rarely make it into the public conversation.

Deep in the heart of North Salem lies an area called “Billionaires’ Dirt Road,” just 55 miles north of New York City.

There, you’ll find mansions for Milwaukee Bucks co-owners Jamie Dinan and Wesley Edens, hedge fund billionaire Glenn Dubin, and Bill Gates’s daughter Jenn Gates, who has a $34 million, 146-acre castle.

Here also lies the most powerful man in the world.

This man is Larry Fink, the founder and CEO of the second-largest institutional company in the world: BlackRock.
