Personally speaking, I adhere to a low carb diet. But as a nutritionist I've seen that it's very hard for people to quit carbohydrates cold turkey.
I think a 40/30/30 split is a good place to start, and hopefully that means they get most of their carbs from complex sources like vegetables, starches, and berries.
I think nutrition is about easing clients into change, not forcing our own eating habits upon anyone. All that said, I hope most sedentary people will learn to restrict their carb intake in the future.
